A separate maintenance action can be an alternative to divorce but, since they are somewhat uncommon, there are some gray areas of the law that people need to be aware of.
Throughout the article, Simpson details what judges in Georgia can and cannot order in separate maintenance actions for important issues including alimony and child support, child custody, and property division.
“If you are concerned about what your spouse may do with certain assets, it is important to consider all options and weigh the risks before deciding whether to pursue a legal separation or a divorce,” Simpson concludes.
