At Boyd Collar Nolen Tuggle & Roddenbery, our decades of family law experience mean our attorneys will provide and inform a thorough analysis of both the costs associated with raising your child and the factors the courts will consider when determining the child support payment amount.
The main factor is the income of each spouse. This includes:
The court will also consider the earning potential of a parent when determining child support. Other considerations are items that parents pay on behalf of their children, such as health insurance and healthcare costs, extracurricular activities, educational costs and childcare costs associated with work.
The court makes a final calculation using the Basic Child Support Obligation Table provided by the Judicial Council of Georgia Administrative Office of the Courts. This gives guidance on the basic dollar amount necessary to support children after the divorce. That amount is then divided proportionally between the parents. The court may also adjust that amount for the considerations listed above, such as health expenses.
