John L. Collar Jr. Founding Shareholder

Attorney John L. Collar Jr.

John L. Collar Jr. represents clients in high net worth divorce cases and complex custody matters. He is a founding member of Boyd Collar Nolen Tuggle & Roddenbery and the trust he has engendered with clients has led to the firm being recognized for its work throughout Georgia. John takes pride in the firm’s integrity, professionalism and the confidential manner in which sensitive client matters are handled.

John is an accountant as well as a lawyer, and he is one of only a handful of Georgia family lawyers who hold that distinction. This financial background benefits clients who must divide the value of their businesses and other complex financial assets. It is particularly helpful in valuing businesses, analyzing cash flow statements, calculating tax consequences, understanding stock options, and complex compensation plans as part of the divorce process.

A telling measure of John’s respect is his leadership among colleagues in family law. He is a past chair of the Atlanta Bar Association Family Law Section and served many years as the Legislative Liaison for the State Bar’s Family Law Section Executive Committee. Peers have recognized him as one of the top family lawyers in Georgia in Best Lawyers in America, Georgia Super Lawyers, Georgia Trend and other listings.

Outside of the office, John devotes time to helping families and children. He has been President of Girls Inc. of Cobb County, an organization that teaches academic and life skills to underprivileged young women; and also has been President of the Cobb County Youth Museum, an interactive education center that teaches history to elementary and middle school students. Currently, he is the Academic Chair for Atlanta Urban Squash, Inc. (A+ Squash), an after-school program for underprivileged kids that integrates sports with academic coaching. John and his wife have four children and live in Marietta.
