Is There A Right Way To Get Divorced?

Just as every marriage and family is different, so is the impact divorce has on it.  For that reason, there in no “right way” to get divorced.  Be sure, though, that the way you get divorced is right for you.

For some, there is little mystery in divorce.  For others, divorce can bring fear, anxiety and trepidation, from the decision to end their marriage, to what the process entails and what life will look like post-divorce.  In figuring out what is right for you, do your homework, just as you would in making any other major decision.  Certainly, seeking sound advice from an experienced family lawyer is in order.  But shared experiences from others who’ve been through the process can also be of great value.

The popular internet newspaper, Huffington Post, which focuses primarily on politics, has recently made “divorce research” a little easier by launching its newest section, HuffPost Divorce, which will include a myriad of topics relating to the subject of divorce. Separate from the site’s “living” section and other lifestyle topics, this new section aims to help people through the difficult and complex transition to single life with advice on finances, parenting, legal matters, and dating.  Founder Arianna Huffington said the new section’s goal is “to produce a fast, fearless, highly interactive guide to the profound changes divorce brings to families, friendships, careers and finances –to say nothing of the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of those going through it.” Huffington introduced the section by saying: “I’ve always thought that, as a country, we do a lousy job of addressing how we can do divorce differently — and better. Especially when there are children involved.”  She also states that, “Divorce affects so many lives, and so many myriad aspects of these lives, we want to put a spotlight on them.”  The idea for the divorce section was inspired by HuffPost editor, Nora Ephron who created the section tag line “marriage comes and goes but divorce is forever.”

Divorce is a personal journey.  Do what you can to make sure the process is personalized to you.
